How to Make Cat Food at Home
Easy Recipes for Feline Nutrition.
Of course cats love being pampered, and giving them homemade cat food is a great way to show your cat the love he or she deserves. Cats survived for thousands of years on 'human' food, it has been in the last hundred or so years that we have been led to believe that our felines need store bought commercial food.
In reality, experts have discovered that the meat products used in commercial cat food are unfit for humans and animals, and that it also contains things that cats won't digest, like grains, cats are carnivorous and are not suited for grains. Also, commercial cat food is made with fatty compunds that can cause health problems for your cat like feline diabetes or weight problems. So it makes sense that your kitty will be healthier on a diet with foods that are natural and balanced, straight from your kitchen.

Balanced Homemade Cat Food Guidelines
Know that there are things that you should not feed to your feline. Things like; chocolate, onions, pork (including bacon and sausage), raw fish, raw eggs, milk or bones. These have been known to have undesirable effects on cats. Also, cats require five times more protein than dogs do, so dog food isn't suitable for cats, nor are the 'vegetarian cat diets' that people talk about. Do not put your cat on a tuna only diet, or a diet heavily reliant on tuna, because the mercury level in tuna is high, and can be dangerous. You should also only use liver in moderation, and if you give your cat a vitamin A tablet, do not feed liver to your cat at all, since vitamin A overdoses are toxic.
Always make sure you talk to your veterinarian before you switch your cat to a homemade diet, as each cat is different, and may require different things. When you are switching to homemade cat food, it is helpful to ween your cat off the commercial cat food that he or she is used to, by combining the food and using less and less commercial food everyday until your cat has grown used to the homemade food. If you switch your cat food suddenly your cat may not eat the food, or eat too much of it, and in any case, will most likely have diarrea because of it.
